Getting Started with Email
Students

Summary: All students have an email account on the NACS Mailbox Services, based on your UCInetID. Use this address for official communication with the University.

Step 1: Activate your UCInetID, if needed.
You will need your Student ID number, your Social Security number and birth date.

Step 2: Check your email
Check your email in one of the following ways.

  1. Configure your email software.
    Choose your favorite email software (Eudora, Netscape Mail, Outlook Express, etc.) and configure it to check your UCI email.
  2. Webmail
    Check your email via a Web browser. Simply login with your UCInetID and password. Webmail is a very basic service, but is convenient if checking mail from a remote location.

Optional: Forward my email to another account.
You may opt to forward your UCI email to a personal account. However, be aware that is best to use your @uci.edu address when communicating with your instructors, TAs or for other official University business.

Shell Access

You also have UNIX Shell access to your account. You will need to use SSH (Secure Telnet) to connect.
