Monday November 23rd, 2009 » Fall Quarter, Week 9
Summary: We are now requiring all connections to the OIT Mailbox Services
accounts to be secured using standard options available in your email
program. Using a secure connection helps protect your password and
increases the security of your communications and your data. The following
section will explain how to connect securely using POP.
These instructions
are meant for those who have already set up POP for use with their UCI
OIT Mailbox Services accounts. If you need instructions on setting up
your mail program for the first time to use POP, please see the Email Set
Up page.
We have tested current versions of the software listed below. If you have earlier versions of any of these programs, you may need to upgrade.
You will need to Eudora 6.2 or later, preferably Eudora 7. If you need to download a current version, visit the Licenses Database and login with your UCInetID and password.
If you receive an error such as: "The server does not support a SSL connection ", or "The connection to the server has failed" it is likely due to use of a consumer version of Norton Antivirus configured to scan incoming mail. You will need to disable scanning incoming mail. If you use Norton Internet Security, it conflicts with our services. To use NACS' POP email server, you will need to uninstall Norton Internet Security. Call the Response Center at (949) 824-2222 for more information.

We have tested Secure POP with Netscape 7.x If you have an older version of Netscape and it does not work, please upgrade your version or use Thunderbird 1.5. Please note, Netscape 8 is a stand alone browser. You may want to use Thunderbird 1.5 instead. It is Mozilla's stand alone email software and is very similar to Netscape's mail.
